Dune Themed 40k: Sandworm

Image
Dune Themed 40K: Sand Worm Even though this isn't the largest model I'm building for this army, for me this is the centerpiece model of this army.  I sculpted the entire worm itself out of Super Sculpy.  Filling the mouth with the "teeth" was extremely painstaking. Rolling bits of Sculpy out one at a time to a tapered edge and layering it into the mouth working from the center out. I would guess that this step took me at least 8 hours of active time working on it.  The end result of all those "teeth".  I decided to run the Sandworm as a Land Raider, as it was similar-ish in size. Having the Sandworm breaking through the surface of the ground was important to me, to illustrate that the whole worm is much larger than the part breaching through the table.  Since it was to be a Landraider I added some of my Fremen Troops to represent the guns that would be on the Land Raider. And added hooks/poles that they us

Fantasy House

Age Of Sigmar: Fantasy House This was a project I painted up for my local Friendly Local Gaming Store. I forget the name of this specific model as I don't believe that Games Workshop sells it anymore.

Dune Themed 40K: Spice Harvester

Image
Dune Themed 40K: Spice Harvester A spice harvester is a large, heavy, mobile factory designed to harvest the Spice Melange on the planet Arrakis. This project began life as a Baneblade model, and is what I plan on running it as in games. I used several terrain kits on this project to add components to the Baneblade to build it up, as well as a salvaged Caestus Assault Ram. The terrain kits used were: Sector Mechanicus Galvanic Servohaulers, Thermic Plasma Conduits, and Thermic Plasma Regulator. Using the Leadbelcher rattle can was a lifesaver on this project, and  I used an entire pot of Nulin Oil wash to cover this massive machine. I also free handed a House Atreides symbol of a red hawk that I have been using throughout this army. A close up on the platform of the Spice Harvester. I really liked the idea of being able to put troops on the model itself when in the display case.  The most painstaking part of this project was painting each of the rivets

Dune Themed Necromunda Gang WIP (Necromunda):

Image
Dune Themed Necromunda Gang WIP (Necromunda): House Van Saar I decided to make a custom themed Fremen themed gang for Necromunda. With Maud'dib as the leader, and complete with everyone in the list having a combat knife and respirator to represent crysknives and still suits. These models were made from a Skitari box and a Wytches box. The Wytches bodies looked a lot like still suits and I like that there are both male and female bodies in that box. And the capes, hoods, and parts of the guns were taken from the Skitari box as well. Here is the base of the Fremen. Wytch body with Skitari head: The cloaks are from the Skitari box, and the body and cloak is all one piece. So the body had to be removed from the cloak. Three stages for each cloak: 1. Fresh of the sprue 2. Body carved out and removed 3. Removal area smoothed out, and notches carved in where it will attach to the shoulders Here is a more clear view of the notch in the cloak. I play

Gargantuan Squiggoth WIP(40K)

Image
Gargantuan Squiggoth (40k): The Gargantuan Squiggoth is probably one of my favorite Ork models ever designed. The thing is about the size of a cinder block, and weighs about as much as it is solid resin.  Here is the parts for the whole kit all laid out. Test fitting the Howda'... I unfortunately can't find a photo of it.. but the head and tail had to be pinned, and the model is so big that I had to use coat hangers instead of paper clips to pin it! I finally had an excuse to set up and try out airbrushing and it was a lot of fun. Here are the base colors laid out. Side View: Front View: Adding details and rust on the armor, to match the rusty purple paint scheme to match with the rest of my 40k Ork army. I have to go into painting the howda' and hand painting the rest of the Gargantuan Squiggoth next. It is quite difficult to handle and manipulate this model, and I must admit that I get some serious fatigue while trying to

Hired Swords (Malifaux)

Image
This is the start to my Hired Swords Gang for Malifaux. I really like the lampost pack that Wyrd put out, and it really adds to these modes. And it makes them easier to pick up without breaking the minis! I still have a lot more to do on most of these minis but just wanted to show off what has been done so far. The Malifaux models all look great and are fun to paint, but man are they a pain to build.

Mazdamundi (AoS)

Image
Mazdamundi (AoS): Well this was quite a project: I estimate it was a week or two building, two or three weeks painting, and another week for the base. But Its probably the project I'm the most proud of so far. Even though he is dead in the lore of AoS, he lives on in my heart and my lizardmen army as the centerpiece model.  "Mazdamundi, Lord of the Solor-City is the oldest and most powerful of the living Slann Mage-Priests and the current ruler of Hexoatl, the City of the Sun" He has a barrel of grubs ready to be consumed from his throne. "Mazdamundi always carries with him a gourd containing a handful of dried Itxl Grubs. These are very potent magical grubs which absorb raw magical power from the ground. When tha Mage-Lord eats the grubs, he gains the magical energy contained within them. He has to eat the whole gourd-full of grubs to gain a significant effect on his own magical powers" I gave him a Magmadroth instead of a Stegadon, as I t
